It’s summer time and the next week or so will be filled with activities in Overland Park, KS, as congregants of various Churches of God (Holiness) gather to worship together at General Camp (June 1- 6) and then convene the General Convention (June 7). Already, the campus 0f Kansas City College and Bible School has become a busy place with the annual Council of ’69 meeting and high school graduation yesterday.

In the Council of ’69 meeting yesterday, four changes were made to the Articles of Incorporation. Two changes were housekeeping matters, but two were more substantial. The first of the two substantial changes was an alteration in language to allow the Council to elect members of the Board of Trustees who did not belong to the Council of ’69. The second substantial change empowers the Board of Trustees to make all corporate decisions set forth under KSA 17-6002 or any successor statute.

These amendments to the Articles of Incorporation were followed with four changes to the By-Laws. Two of these changes were also housekeeping matters. The third change was made to mirror the change in the Articles of Incorporation – that board members need not belong to the Council in order to be elected to the Board. The fourth change set a restriction on the election to the Board of Trustees to elect those who are affiliated with and in regular attendance to churches that are Wesleyan-Arminian in doctrine but are not associated with the Churches of God (Holiness), as long as that number of trustees does not constitute a majority of a quorum.

After the ensuing elections of Council members and board members, the Kansas City College and Bible School Board of Trustees is thus constituted

Term ending in 2011

Richard Beckham

Rodney Davis

Marley McLerran

Wayne Skeen, Jr.

Term ending in 2012

Kevin Askew

Larry DeOrnellis

Dwight Purtle

Rodney Smith

Jeff Collins

John Dowd

Matt Lee

Greg Wright

Your prayers are appreciated for Dr. Delbert Scott, the Board, faculty, and students of KCCBS.

As you prepare and pray for our upcoming General Convention, you may wish to review the members of Church of God (Holiness) boards and committees in order to help you pray about those who should be elected or re-elected to these positions.

Sometimes I wonder if God shakes His head in dismay. As He observes our attempts to be good Christians there have to be times of divine discouragement. We seem to learn rules and ritual more rapidly than right behavior. As I read the following account shared by one of my online students I actually felt sorry for God. A divine tear must have fallen on His royal robes as he watched this man in his attempt to be a responsible Christian leader. Read and weep with God.

“When I first came to Christ, I was a real legalist. Things had to be done a certain way or you were going to hell. I did not give anybody any slack. I not really interested in help serve people. I just want to tell the truth of the Gospel and not really move to much farther beyond that. That was until I had a unique experience happen to me in college. When I was in college, I accepted Christ and got involved in the local Student Union. After I was there for a few months, I volunteered to lead a Bible Study on Campus. One day I was running late, so I grabbed my materials and ran up the hill to the building where the Bible Study was being held. As I approached the top of the hill, A homeless man started toward me. When I saw him, I moved to the other side of the street. So he moved to the other side of the street. I switched sides a few time, but he always followed me. In my mind I said, “I do not have time for this. I am late. Maybe I can give him a few bucks and he will leave me alone. So as I approached him, I pulled a few dollars out and handed it to him. As he took the money, he grabbed my hand. He would not let it go. He said’ “Before you go, I have a quick question to ask you”. I thought, “Ok here comes this guy’s sob story.” He asked me “Do you know Christ?” My heart sank. He said’ “I see college kids go by all the time and I wonder if they know Jesus.” At that moment I felt 2 inches tall. Here I was going to teach a Bible Study about Christ and missed an opportunity to minister to someone else. As we talked, he told me that it was hard to share with people because he did not have a bible. I had some with me so I gave him one. I walked away changed that day. “

Now it is time for us to pray. Can we be changed like this young man? Can we understand and order our priorities so that they follow God’s plan rather than our preconceived notion of what it means to please God?

David Fulton, Evangellst

David Fulton was born in Bolivia, South America to missionary parents; he spent the first eight years of life there. He graduated from high school in 1986 and was married a year later. David and his wife Leah have three children: David Jr., Carrie, and Ashley. David Jr. is married and a member of the U. S. Marine Corps stationed in North Carolina. Carrie is getting married this August and will go back to school in Florida.
The Fultons have pastored churches in North Carolina and Indiana. For nine years they lived in Florida, where he was involved in FEA Ministries. Last year he went into full time evangelism and relocated to Frankfort, Indiana.

Steve Desmond, Worship Leader

Steve Desmond is a Christian vocalist from Greeley Colorado, who travels throughout the Midwest performing gospel concerts in hundreds of churches. His musical styles are very wide, ranging from Southern Gospel to Classical Gaither style from Contemporary Christian to Praise and Worship.
