Five Fools in Proverbs

Foolishness: the absence of wisdom. the absence of fear of God.

  1. The Simple Fool Proverbs 1:1-4; 7:6-7
    • He has an open mind but no discernment Proverbs 22:3
    • He lacks understanding Proverbs 7:6-7
    • He fails to see the cause and effect sequences of life He may learn fear and understanding from the discipline of the scorning Fool Proverbs 19:25
  2. The Silly Fool Proverbs 7:22
    • He becomes thick-headed Proverbs 10:21
    • He despises instruction Proverbs 1:7
    • He believes his way is right Proverbs 12:15
    • You cannot argue with him Proverbs 29:9
    • He becomes angry when things go wrong Proverbs 27:3
    • His mouth often gets him in trouble Proverbs 20:3;10:14
    • His reputation can be improved if he controls his tongue Proverbs 17:28
  3. The Sensual Fool Proverbs 10:23
    • He does not lack mental capabilities, but rejects God's wisdom and is set on his own immediate pleasure and he glories in shame. Proverbs 13:19-20
    • He appears to be prosperous and is the envy of other fools Proverbs 1:32
    • He will not listen to counsel, but needs punnishment Proverbs 26:3
    • He is unreasonable Proverbs 17:25
  4. The Scorning Fool Proverbs 1:22
    • He has contempt for authorities and shows it by facial expressions. He shows abhorance toward people and ideas which contradict his conclusions Proverbs 1:22
    • He mimics godly people in order to dishonor mock or ridiclule them for thier standards. He cannot respond to wisdom though he may desire it. Proverbs 14:6
    • He should not be advised but disciplined and then separated from others Proverbs 9:7-8; 19:25; 21:11; 22:10
  5. The Stedfast Fool Proverbs 17:21
    • He is a shame to his family Proverbs 17:21
    • He is self-confident and close-minded Psalm 14:1
    • He will creep into families, churches and lead away the simple and the weak Jude 4,12 He can only be dealt with by God
